Is it 100% guaranteed to see sloths in Cuyabeno? Although the sighting rate is very high (80-95% depending on tour length), wildlife is unpredictable. Our guides know the best zones, but we can't guarantee sightings. What we do guarantee is maximum effort and an authentic Amazon experience.
Can you touch the sloths? No, and it's fundamental to understand why: sloths are wild animals, not pets. Touching them causes severe stress, can transmit diseases in both directions, and is illegal. Responsible operators maintain respectful distance.
How close can you get? The minimum recommended distance is 10 meters. However, occasionally sloths are naturally close to trails or over water, allowing closer observation without needing to actively approach.
Are sloths dangerous? They're extremely docile and avoid confrontations. However, they have long, strong claws they use for defense if threatened. Respecting distance, there's no risk.
Can I see them from the lodge? Occasionally yes. Green Forest Ecolodge is surrounded by vegetation and some guests have been lucky to spot sloths from the facilities, but guided excursions enormously maximize your chances.
Do I need previous experience or be in good physical shape? No. Sloth sightings occur both from canoes (zero physical effort) and on low-moderate difficulty walks. Our excursions are adaptable to different fitness levels.
